Just days before moving onto the Rice University campus as a member of the school's Class of 2015, future Owl golfer Joe Beck III concluded his junior career by winning the George Hannon Invitational played at the Austin Country Club.
Beck shot a two-over par 146, winning the Legends Junior Tour event by one stroke. He began Tuesday's final round three strokes back of the lead. After an opening-round 72, Beck played the front nine of Tuesday's final round bogey free but was +3 through 14 holes. A birdie on the Austin Country Club's longest hole (552-yard, par 5 No. 15) proved to be the difference Tuesday.
The George Hannon Invitational featured 83 of the top junior golfers from Texas as well as Canada.
Beck, who prepped at Lake Travis High School in Austin, is one of four newcomers first-year Rice coach Justin Emil will welcome to campus next week.
Rice will begin its fall season Sept. 12-13 at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate in Hattiesburg, Miss.
