Michael Whitehead returned to Congressional Country Club Saturday morning at the U.S. Open. The Rice golf alum had two holes to play in Friday's second round when play was suspended by rain and lightning in the area.
The Sugar Land native would finish with a 75 Saturday, four over par, to conclude play in his first professional tournament. Whitehead was +10 for the national championship. The cut for the major was set at plus four.
Whitehead finished play at the picturesque No. 18 with a par putt. A day earlier he birdied the hole, one of only 18 through two rounds at the championship.
The 23-year old's professional career will continue in the coming weeks as he is expected to play on the National Golf Association Hooters Pro Golf Tour. He will play the Texas Honing Open sponsored by Robert Steele this coming week at Golfcrest Country Club in Pearland.
