Rice Swim Team Announces Three Additions To Incoming Class

HOUSTON - Rice head swim coach Seth Huston announced on Friday (May 20) three more recruits have joined the Owls' incoming class for the 2011-2012 season. The new incoming class for the 2011 Conference USA champions has now doubled to six with the addition of prep/club standouts Allyson Bremer, Faith Hirschi and Rachel Moody.
Rachel Moody is an all-state sprinter from Memorial High School in Houston. She was also a state finalist in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.76) and member of the Mustangs' all-state relay teams.
Faith Hirschi is a junior national qualifier in the backstroke. The El Paso, Tex., native from Loretto Academy was the TAPPS Division I state champion in both the backstroke and 200-freestyle.
Allyson Bremer of Grand Rapids, Mich., is the lone out-of-state athlete in the Owls' full six-swimmer class. Bremer is a four-time all-state honoree who posted some of her best marks in the backstroke and breaststroke, but is versatile enough to have also set the school record in the 200-individual medley while at East Grand Rapids High School.
Coach Huston stated that these three additions complements the trio of Case Clark, Erin Flanigan and Marissa Konicke, who signed with Rice in November of 2010. The signees' first semester at Rice begins in August of 2011. Huston had high praise for the Owls' latest class, his ninth at Rice since taking the helm of the program. Last spring the Rice swim won the 2011 Conference USA championship, the Owls' first league title in the history of the swim program.
"I think stacking this six-signee class on top of our freshmen class from a year ago brings us two very strong groups back-to-back," Huston said. "Our goal of reaching the NCAA Championships becomes more realistic when we are signing Collegeswimming.com Top 100 recruits like we have the last couple of years. These young ladies can help us continue to build the type of program we want to have at Rice."
