Rice junior swimmer Shelby Bottoms was named to the 2010-11 Capital One Academic All-District VI Women's At-Large Team, the College Sports Information Directors Association of America (CoSIDA) announced on Thursday, May 19.
To be nominated for the academic honor, a student-athlete must have a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and be a regular participant or key reserve in their sport. Bottoms maintained a 3.793 GPA and is a triple major in Economics, Sport Management, and Managerial Studies. Last February she helped lead the Rice swim team to the program's first conference championship in swimming in school history.
Bottoms is a 2011 Rice University Honor Athlete and also a three-time C-USA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll member. The Houston native from nearby Lamar High School earned C-USA Swimmer of the Week accolades twice during the 2011 season and posted Rice's best times in four different events. She reached the finals of three different events at the recent C-USA Championships and swam on four of the Owls' top relay teams.
