Pepperdine Defeats Rice Volleyball 3-0 at Asics Classic

Malibu, Calif. -- The Rice Owls volleyball team was swept 3-0 by the Pepperdine Waves Friday night at the Asics Classic in Firestone Fieldhouse on the Pepperdine campus. Set scores were 25-20, 25-22, 25-15.
Owl outside hitter Ashleigh McCord led all hitters with 15 kills. It was her fourth match in as many this season to post double-digit kills. Sophomore Nancy Cole had 6 kills, while Meredith Schamun had 22 assists. Libéro Tracey Lam led the Owls with 14 digs.
Pepperdine (2-2) was led offensively by Victoria Adelhelm and Kim Hill, who each had 12 kills apiece. Setter Kellie Woolever had a match-high 35 assists, while Stevi Robinson dug a match-high 15 digs.
As a team, the Waves tallied 41 kills for a .266 hitting percentage with 9 blocks. Rice, meanwhile, totaled 36 kills for a .150 hitting percentage and 8 blocks.
In the day's other match, Missouri (4-0) defeated Eastern Washington(1-3) 3-0. Set scores were 25-16, 25-22, 25-17.
Rice (2-2) plays Missouri and Eastern Washington on Saturday to close out the tournament at 2:30 and 7 p.m. (CT) respectively.
