Rice University begins defense of its 2009 UTA/Waterchase Invitational title on Monday in Fort Worth.
Last year Rice had three golfers birdie the final hole as the Owls captured the team title by two strokes over host Texas-Arlington.
Michael Whitehead was one of the three golfers to birdie the final hole a year ago and last week was one of the Owls' top finishers at lthe season-opening Sam Hall Intercollegiate hosted by Southern Miss. Whitehead along with freshman Jeff Wibawa both fired three-round scores of 217 to lead Rice.
This year's UTA/Waterchase Invitational will feature an 18-team field. While the field is dominated by Texas teams, Conference USA rival Southern Miss is also set to play in the tournament.
The UTA/Waterchase Invitational is set for 36 holes Monday with the final 18 holes slated for Tuesday at the Waterchase Golf Club (Par 72, 7,304 yards) in Fort Worth.
