Rice VB Loses 3-0 to New Mexico State

Baton Rouge, La. - The Rice Owls volleyball squad dropped a close match to New Mexico State 3-0 at LSU's Tiger Classic Friday inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Set scores were 25-19, 25-22, and 25-23. The Owls are now 3-4 on the year, while the Aggies improve to 6-1.
Sophomore middle blocker led Rice with 10 kills and a .333 hitting percentage. Setter Meredith Schamun posted her first double-double of the season with 32 assists and 11 digs. Tracey Lam led the Owls with 16 digs.
NMSU was led by Kayleigh Giddens' 12 kills and 10 digs, while Rocio Gutierrez added 11 kills. The Aggies' Ellen Miks had a match-high 19 digs.
The Aggies tallied 41 kills for a .198 attack percentage, while Rice posted 37 kills but only mustered a .073 attack percentage. New Mexico State also had 9 team blocks to Rice's 4.
The Owls continue play in the Tiger Classic on Saturday when it faces the host, LSU, at 10 a.m. and then North Carolina at 5:30 p.m.
