Rice University's golf team was one of 64 NCAA Division I Institutions to be named an All-Academic Team by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
To be eligible for GCAA All-Academic Team honors, a college or university had to submit the grade points earned and hours attempted for each player on its official squad list for the 2009-10 academic year. Teams with a 3.00 cumulative grade point average or higher earned All-Academic Team distinction.
Rice was one of four Conference USA Institutions to receive All-Academic Team accolades. Also recognized from C-USA was East Carolina, SMU and Tulsa.
Earlier this summer Rice golfers Michael Buttacavoli and Michael Whitehead were named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars. Buttacavoli, an Academic All-America selection, graduated from Rice in May. After competing in next week's U.S. Amateur, Whitehead will begin his senior year at Rice.
