Rice Posts Sixth-Place Finish at Bulldog Classic

CHOUDRANT, La. - Michael Buttacavoli shot a final-round 74 on Tuesday to garner his sixth, Top 10 performance of the season and help Rice to a sixth-place team finish at the Louisiana Tech Bulldog Classic.
Buttacavoli began the day tied for 18th after back-to-back 75s on Monday. His 54-hole score of 224 (+8) was good for 10th. Michael Whitehead shot a 77 on Tuesday to wrap up play with a 225 (+9) and tie for 11th.
The Owls shot a 306 on Tuesday to wrap up the tournament with a 915 team score.
Southeastern Louisiana's Cedric Scotto shot a 71 on Tuesday to capture individual medalist honors by four strokes and help the Lions to a one-stroke win over second-place Mississippi which was the second-round leader. Southeastern Louisiana shot an 880 team score. Nineteen strokes back of the Ole Miss Rebels' 881 was host Louisiana Tech which carded a 900 and placed third.
Rice's other three golfers - Christopher Brown, Jade Scott and Tommy Mitchell - had three-round scores of 232, 234 and 236, respectively. Brown tied for 37th, Scott finished in a tie for 44th and Mitchell placed 53rd in his first tournament competing as a member of the Owls' five-member team.
Rice returns to action in two weeks when the squad travels to the UALR / First Tee Collegiate Classic in Little Rock, Ark. The tournament is slated for March 29-30 at Chenal Country Club.
