IRVING, Tex. -- Rice sophomore Kylee Talwar was named the Conference USA Swimmer of the Week, while SMU's Audra Egenolf was named the C-USA Diver of the Week, the league office announced Saturday (Nov. 13) from its headquarters in Irving, Tex.
In a dual meet against ACC power Miami-Fla., Talwar posted a win and two second places finishes with some of the fastest times in Conference USA so far this season. She won the 200-yard individual medley against the Hurricanes with a season-best (2:07.58). Talwar was also second in the 200-breaststroke with a season-best 2:21.72 that was just five one-hundredths of a second (.05) from the winning time. The Jacksonville, Fla., native was also second in the 100-breaststroke with a 1:04.74 that is one of the league's top marks and the sixth-fastest in school history.
The C-USA Swimmer of the Week Award is the first of Talwar's career. She is the second Owl to receive the honor this season after junior Shelby Bottoms earned the accolade for the week of Oct. 20.
Egenolf turned won both the one-meter and three-meter diving events in the dual meet against North Texas. Both of Egenolf's score exceed the NCAA Zone Qualifying score.
The Rice swim team next competes at the University of Houston Invitational on Nov. 19-21. The three-day meet features Rice, LSU, SMU, Tulane and host Houston.
