Rice University will face the strongest field of the fall season next week when the Owls travel to the Rod Myers Invitational hosted by Duke University.
The 12-team field is headlined by No. 16 Duke and No. 19 Iowa and also includes Charlotte, East Tennessee State, Michigan, Middle Tennessee State, North Carolina State, Tulsa, UNC Greensboro and Virginia Commonwealth.
"This is the most solid field we have seen this fall and it will be quite a challenge to step up our level of play," said Rice coach Drew Scott. "We have played enough championship golf courses that we should be ready to play. We just have to get our No. 4 or No. 5 guy in the lineup to contribute a little more."
Rice senior Tim Pawul will make his fall season debut this week and Robert Burrow returns to the lineup after becoming ill late last week and missing the team's event at Louisiana Tech. Rounding out the Rice squad for the tournament is Michael Whitehead, Jeff Wibawa and Brock Wilson.
Whitehead is coming off a second-place tie at the Louisiana Tech/Squire Creek Intercollegiate. It was the senior's second Top 5 finish of the fall season. He currently leads the Rice team with a 71.67 strokes per round average.
Next week's Rod Myers Invitational will be played at the Duke University Golf Club. The only Robert Trent Jones-designed course in the region is considered one of the top ten golf courses in North Carolina and consistently ranks among the top on-campus courses in the NCAA.
Next week's tournament will begin with a shotgun start Sunday as the teams begin 36 holes of golf. Tee times will be utilized for the final 18 holes.
