Rice junior Nicole Delaloye finished fourth overall in the individual standings at the fourth annual American Swimming Association Open Water Collegiate National Championships Saturday (Oct. 2) at Lake Travis. As a team the Owls finished second overall behind meet winner Texas A&M.
Rice posted four of the top 10 spots in the annual 5,000-meter open water race. Junior Alison Godbe was sixth, while freshman Quincy Christian and senior Sarah Korellis we're 9th and 10th respectively.
The Owls next travel to Boise State for a two-day season-opening dual on Oct. 8-9. Head coach Seth Huston is pleased with the team's progress, particularly the newcomers who will be in their first season at the Division I level.
"We have had a great preseason of training," Huston said, the 2010 Conference USA Coach of the Year. "The freshmen have really impressed all. The returning team is very excited about the year and they have done an excellent job of working together and building cohesion."
