New Orleans - Rice's Jackie Stanley posted another double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, but it was not enough as Tulane defeated the visiting Rice Owls 82-60 in the second Conference USA game of the season for both schools.
The Owls (6-9, 0-2) began the contest with an early 10-2 lead, but Tulane battled back and Goswitz tied it at 21 after a pair of made free throws with 9:10 on the clock. The Green Wave then surged ahead with a 22 to 7 run to close out the half. Fourteen of Rice's 20 turnovers were committed in the first 20 minutes of the ball game.
Tulane (12-3, 1-1) also outscored the Owls 40 to 10 in the paint for the game and shot 50 percent from the field (33-66). The Owls made 17 of their 55 field goal attempts (31 percent).
For Stanley, a sophomore forward, it was her team-leading fourth double-double of the season and second on the weekend after scoring 25 points and grabbing 13 rebounds at UTEP on Friday. Junior forward Morgan Mayse was the only other Owl in double-digits with 11 points. Freshman guard Jessica Goswitz contributed 8 points, while sophomore guard Amenemope McKinney tallied 7 points with 4 steals in 21 minutes of action off the bench.
The Green Wave had four players in double-digits led by guard Olivia Grayson's 20 points on 9-15 shooting. Danielle Nunn scored 18 points, Indira Kaljo and Roshaunda Barnes added 15 and 14 points respectively. Barnes also dished out a game-high 8 assists.
Next weekend, Rice hosts Marshall on Friday (7 p.m.) and East Carolina on Sunday (2 p.m.) inside Tudor Fieldhouse.
