
Rice Beats Memphis in Volleyball

Memphis, Tenn. - Ashleigh McCord and Jenn McClean each sported double-doubles to lead the Rice volleyball team to a 3-0 victory at Memphis in its first Conference USA match of the season. Game scores were 25-16, 25, 22, and 25-23. The Owls improve to 9-3 overall on the year, while the Tigers are 2-13 overall and 0-2 in C-USA matches.
"We are pleased to pick-up a victory on the road," commented Rice head coach Genny Volpe. "Overall I thought our passing was solid and our focus was to finish each set strong. I also thought that Jessie (Boulavsky) was very consistent with her play this evening."
A sophomore outside hitter, McCord led all attackers with 12 kills to go with 11 digs. McClean, pounded 10 kills with 14 digs. It was McClean's team-leading fifth double-double of the season and McCord's first.
Senior Jessie Boulavsky had a great attacking night for Rice with a match-high .500 attack percentage. Boulavsky had 10 kills (1 error) in 18 attempts with 3 blocks. Senior Natalie Bogan continued her strong play of late with a 368 attack percentage with 8 kills and 1 error in 19 attempts. Bogan also had 3 blocks.
Rice for the night hit .229 to Memphis' .138 and had 57 digs to the Tigers' 52 in the match. Owl setter Meredith Schamun had a match-high 38 assists to go with 5 kills and 8 digs. Owl libero Tracey Lam had 12 digs to reach doubled-digits for the 52nd straight time.
The Owls now play at UAB on Sunday at 1 p.m. (Central).
