Buttacavoli Named C-USA Golfer of the Week

IRVING - Rice University senior golfer Michael Buttacavoli was named Conference USA's Golfer of the Week on Wednesday.
Buttacavoli was one of three Rice players to birdie the final hole at the UTA/Waterchase Invitational as the Owls won the UTA/Waterchase Invitational by two strokes. It was Rice University's first tournament championship in 11 years.
In his first collegiate tournament since last November, Buttacavoli carded a six-under par 210 (70-68-72) to finish as the tournament's runner-up. The Miami Beach, Fla., native missed the 2009 spring season after undergoing knee surgery.
Buttacavoli was also named Conference USA's Golfer of the Week following the last event he competed for Rice. He finished in a tie for second at the Pacific Invitational played last November in Stockton, Calif.
Rice returns to action Oct. 5th when the Owls open play at the Squire Creek Invitational hosted by Louisiana Tech.
