Rice University's golf team was one of six NCAA Division I programs to receive the Golf Coaches Association of America's President's Special Recognition for the 2008-09 academic year.
The President's Special Recognition was bestowed on golf programs which had a 3.50 or better grade point average for the year. The other five Division I programs to receive the recognition were Belmont, Detroit Mercy, East Carolina, Georgia Tech and Seton Hall.
Rice was one of 45 NCAA Division I teams which submitted GPAs of 3.00 or higher and earned All-Academic Team recognition. To be eligible for GCAA All-Academic Team honors, a college or university had to submit the grade points earned and hours attempted for each player on its official squad list for the 2008-09 academic year.
In July, Rice golfer Michael Buttacavoli was recognized by the GCAA when he was named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar.
Rice opens the 2009 fall season Sept. 21-22 at the UTA / Waterchase Invitational in Fort Worth.
