Rice University junior golfer Robert Burrow heads into Tuesday's second round of stroke play just two shots off the pace to advance at the U.S. Amateur.
Burrow, one of 312 golfers taking part in the 109th U.S. Amateur being held in Tulsa, Okla. this week, opened play with a six-over par 76 at Cedar Ridge Country Club on Monday. The round puts him in a tie for 114th place.
Burrow will look for a few more birdies Tuesday as he plays his second round at Southern Hills Country Club. His group will tee off at 9:20 a.m. On Monday, the Charlotte, N.C., native was three-over par on the front nine before a birdie on the par four, 10th hole. But bogeys at 12, 13, 15 and 17 left him at +6.
Led by Germantown, Tenn., native Tim Jackson's two-under par 68, only five players had scores in the red and six others shot even par.
