Rice University's golf team will tackle a schedule which will pit the Owls against regional rivals at almost every event. The 2009-10 schedule released Friday features six tournaments which will be played in the Lone Star State.
"We are very excited with the schedule we have this year," said fifth-year head coach Drew Scott. "There are some challenging events with some top national teams and also a few regional events where we should contend for victories."
Rice opens the fall season Sept. 21-22 at the UTA / Waterchase Invitational played in Arlington at The Links at Waterchase.
The fall slate also includes the Lone Start Shootout hosted by Texas-San Antonio at Briggs Ranch Golf Club (Oct. 18-19) which will host 12 of the state's best teams. The field will include Baylor, Lamar, Texas and Texas A&M to name a few.
The David Toms Invitational hosted by Louisiana State University at The Country Club of Louisiana in Baton Rouge will pit the Owls against an SEC-laden field.
Rice will open the spring season when it plays host to the 10th Annual Rice Intercollegiate presented by Srixon. The Owls will look to improve on last year's runner-up finish at Westwood Golf Club.
The spring slate also includes the 59th Border Olympics played at Laredo Country Club as well as the Reunion Intercollegiate played host by Ole Miss in Madison, Miss.
The Conference USA Championship will return to Red Tail Golf Club in Sorrento, Fla., for a second straight year (April 25-27).
