37th Southern Junior Championship Results
GREENSBORO, Ga. - Rice University golf signee Jade Scott captured the 37th Southern Junior Championship Thursday at Reynolds Landing.
Scott, who will be a freshman at Rice in the fall, carded a 69 on Tuesday to share a first-round lead he would not relinquish over the 54-hole tournament. The 2008 Texas Junior Golf Championship medalist shot a 70 on Wednesday before firing a 71 during Thursday's final round to finish with a six-under 210 for the tournament.
Finishing second at the tournament, three strokes back of Scott, was Georgia signee Brian Carter.
Scott joins Rice senior golfer Michael Buttacavoli as a Southern Junior champion. Buttacavoli won the event in 2005. The championship qualifies Scott for the Southern Amateur Championship slated for July in Cordova, Tenn., at Colonial Country Club. Buttacavoli is also in the tournament's field.
Scott's next summer tournament is the Texas State Amateur which begins next week in Bryan. Also playing in the field will be Rice junior Michael Whitehead.
Scott signed with the Owls during last November's early signing period. His father, Johnny Scott, played golf at Rice in the mid-1970s.
