Owls Finish Eighth at C-USA Championship

Conference USA Golf Championship Final Results in PDF Format
SORRENTO, Fla. - Rice was four-under par on the final four holes of the Conference USA Championship Tuesday to secure an eighth-place finish.
Rice sophomore Michael Whitehead and junior Christopher Brown both posted Top 20 finishes at the championship played at RedTail Golf Club (par 72, 7152 yards).
Starting their round from the 10th tee, the Owls began the day in eighth place but slipped to ninth during Tuesday's play. Rice closed out the final round with Whitehead along with teammates Kyle Kelley and Tim Pawul all carding birdies on the par-four ninth hole while Robert Burrow birdied No. 7.
Whitehead bogeyed four of the first seven holes during his round but righted his play with a birdie on No. 17. He was two-under par after the turn to finish with a 73 (+1). He posted a 16th-place finish with a three-round score of 216 (E).
Christopher Brown was also two-under par after the turn following a double bogey on No. 18. Brown would end up shooting an even par 72 and tied for 17th with a 217 (+1).
Rice finished a stroke ahead of Southern Miss for eighth place. The Owls shot an 885 for the tournament (+21).
Behind the play of Simon Ward and Blayne Barber, tournament host UCF won the team championship with a three-round score of 846 (-18). SMU shot an 852 to place second while UAB was third, carding an 861.
Ward shot a four-under par 68 for the second straight day and won the individual championship by a stroke over Barber.
Ward and Barber along with UAB's Zach Sucher began the day in a three-way tie for first. Barber's only blemish in a final-round 69 was a bogey on No. 14. Sucher was three-under heading to No. 17 but finished his round with a bogey and double bogey to fall out of contention for the individual championship.
