CHOUDRANT, La. - Rice freshman Jade Scott shot a two-under par 70 as the Owls placed fourth at the Louisiana Tech/Squire Creek Intercollegiate Tuesday.
Scott along with teammate Michael Buttacavoli both finished in a tie for ninth individually, carding even-par 216 scores for the three-round tournament played at Squire Creek Country Club (Par 72, 7,105 yards).
Rice shot an even-par 288 team score Tuesday, the second-lowest round of the day and finished with a three-round score of 869 (+5). The University of New Orleans shot an 854 to win the tournament by nine strokes over second-place Southeastern Louisiana (863). Middle Tennessee was third, carding an 867. The tournament featured 16 teams from Texas and the southeast United States.
"I think we played well and really hung in there, playing even par golf today," said Rice coach Drew Scott. "The first round really hurt us. It kept us from finishing second or third."
Rice shot a 296 to open tournament play on Monday before rebounding to card a three-under par 285 later in the day to make up some ground.
In addition to Scott and Buttacavoli's Top 10 finishes, Rice junior Michael Whitehead was three-over par for the tournament (219) and tied for 19th.
Rice, which has a 27-3 head-to-head record through two tournaments, now turns its attention to the Lone Star Shootout which will be played Oct. 18-19 at Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio.
