Coming off its first tournament title in 11 years, the Rice golf team returns to action Monday when the Owls open play at the Louisiana Tech/Squire Creek Intercollegiate being played in Choudrant, La.
The tournament is slated for 36 holes of play on Monday with the final 18 holes scheduled for Tuesday at Squire Creek Country Club (Par 72, 7,105 yards).
Rice is coming off a two-stroke team victory at the UTA/Waterchase Invitational in September. The Owls will travel the same five golfers for this week's event.
Senior Michael Buttacavoli was the Owls' top finisher at UTA, posting a runner-up finish with a six-under par 210 score. Junior Michael Whitehead and true freshman Jade Scott also posted Top 10 finishes last month at the UTA event. Both Christopher Brown and Benjamin Thorseth figured into the Owls' scoring in the team's tournament championship last month and will also represent Rice this week.
This week's tournament hosted by Louisiana Tech will include 16 teams including seven teams from the Sun Belt Conference. Southern Miss is the only other Conference USA program competing.
The University of New Orleans returns to defend its 2008 team title.
