
Rice Beats East Carolina 3-0 in Volleyball

Houston - Jenn McClean had a match-high 18 kills to lead Rice to a 3-0 victory over East Carolina in a Conference USA volleyball match in Tudor Fieldhouse. McClean, by the way, was only four kills shy of East Carolina's team total of 22.
The Owls are now 15-8 overall and 7-5 in C-USA, while the Pirates are now 9-15 on the year and 2-10 in league action.
Set scores were 25-19, 25-17, and 25-17
For the match, Rice hit .280 with 48 kills, while ECU hit .046 with 22 kills and 18 errors. The Owls' Meredith Schamun had a match-high 38 assists and Tracey Lam had a match-high 21 digs.
Melissa Zenter led the Pirates with 7 kills.
The Owls were behind 12 to 9 in the first set, before outscoring the Pirates 11 to 1 for a 20-13 lead and the eventual 25-19 final score. Rice hit .242 with 14 kills, while limiting ECU to 8 kills and a -.031 hitting percentage. Ashleigh McCord had 5 kills and Jenn McClenn pounded 4 kills to lead Rice. The Owls also had 4 team blocks, including 2 block solos.
Rice was in control of set two by forging an early 14-8 lead before winning 25-17. The Owls hit .371 to ECU's .238 and posted 19 kills, while the Pirates managed 7 kills. Jenn McClean had 7 kills to lead all attackers in set two and Jessie Boulasvky added 4 kills.
Rice closed out the match with a 25-17 win in set three. The Owls were ahead 13-11, before finishing on an 11 to 8 run. Rice hit .231 in the third set as the Pirates hit .000.
The Owls now host Marshall on Saturday at 7 p.m. inside Tudor Fieldhouse.
