IRVING - A day after winning the individual championship at the David Toms Intercollegiate, Rice University freshman Jade Scott was named the Conference USA Co-Male Golfer of the Week on Wednesday.
Scott shared the weekly honor with SMU's James Kwon who defended his 2008 title by winning the Baylor Intercollegiate for a second straight year. UCF's Valentine Fontaine was selected the female recipient the league office announced.
In just his fourth collegiate event, Scott equaled the lowest score by a Rice golfer in more than 20 years, firing a final-round 65 to come from seven strokes back to win the LSU-hosted tournament by one stroke. He began Tuesday's round with five straight birdies and for the tournament shot a three-round score of 204 (-9).
Through four tournaments, Scott has a 71.75 stroke average and in addition to his one championship, has a pair of Top 10 finishes this fall.
Scott's honor is the second time this season Rice has had a player named Player of the Week by Conference USA. Senior Michael Buttacavoli received the recognition in September when he helped lead the Owls to the UTA/Waterchase Invitational team championship.
Rice returns to Louisiana next week and will cap the fall season at the Carter Plantation Intercollegiate hosted by Southeastern Louisiana in Springfield, La.
