
Tulsa Beats Rice 3-1 in Volleyball

Tulsa, Okla. - Tulsa's Hannah Stout posted 18 kills and a .621 hitting percentage to lead the Golden Hurricane to a 3-1 Conference USA volleyball victory and a season sweep over the visiting Rice Owls in the Reynolds Center. TU moves to 19-5 overall and 8-2 in C-USA play, while the Owls drop to 4-8 and 6-5 in league action.
Set scores were 19-25, 24-26, 25-22, 21-25.
Sophomore outside hitter Ashleigh McCord who collected 20 kills and sported a .293 attack percentage, again, led Rice. Senior Jenn McClean had a double-double with 13 kills and 14 digs, while Natalie Bogan and Jessie Boulavsky each added 10 kills. Freshman middle blocker Nancy Cole posted 9 kills and a .261 attack percentage. McCord also had a match-high 20.5 points.
Owl setter Meredith Schamun posted a match-high 57 assists (14.25 assist per set average) and libero Tracey Lam had 27 digs.
Stout had zero hitting errors in 29 attacks for TU. Jennifer Eichler, who burned the Owls with 19 kills in the season's first meeting had a double-double this afternoon with 15 kills and 10 digs. Tyler Henderson also had 13 kills for Tulsa.
The Owls posted more kills than Tulsa, 67 to 62, but the Golden Hurricane was more accurate in its attack by committing only 14 errors in having a .312 hitting percentage for the match. Rice did hit a respectable .235 (67-27-170).
Rice returns home next weekend to host two C-USA matches. First up is the Dig for the Cure match in increasing breast cancer awareness vs. East Carolina on Friday (Oct. 30) at 7 p.m. Then on Saturday (Oct. 31) the Owls host Marshall at 7 p.m. Both matches take place in Tudor Fieldhouse.
