Owls Finish 9th at Lone Star Invitational

SAN ANTONIO - SAN ANTONIO - Rice junior Michael Whitehead was one-over par Monday and tied for 12th individually as the Owls posted a ninth-place finish at the Lone Star Invitational played at Briggs Ranch Golf Club.
Whitehead opened the tournament with a three-under par 69 Sunday morning and had a three-round score of 218 (+2).
Rice shot a 298 Monday to finish with a three-round score of 897 (+33).
Texas A&M's John Hurley shot a 10-under par 206 to win the individual title by a stroke over Texas' Dylan Fritelli. The Aggies shot an 848 (-16) to win the team championship by 10 strokes over Texas.
Rice is back in action next week when the Owls travel to Baton Rouge, La., for the David Toms Invitational hosted by LSU at the Country Club of Louisiana.
