Rice University's golf team will face a formidable in-state field as the Owls travel to the Lone Star Invitational slated for Sunday and Monday at Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio.
Conference USA rivals Houston, SMU and UTEP along with Big 12 programs Baylor, Texas and Texas A&M headline the 12-team field. The tournament will be played at the Thomas Fazio-designed Briggs Ranch Golf Club (Par 72, 7,206 Yards) located on the edge of the Texas Hill Country.
Rice senior golfer Michael Buttacavoli is the Owls' leading golfer through the first two tournaments of the fall with a pair of Top 10 finishes, including a second at the UTA/Waterchase Invitational. He is averaging 71.00 strokes per round. Freshman Jade Scott is second on the team with 72.17 stroke average and has also posted Top 10 finishes in the Owls' first two tournaments.
Junior Robert Burrow, who competed in the U.S. Amateur in August, will be competing in his first tournament of the season for Rice. Also playing for Rice this weekend will be junior Michael Whitehead and sophomore Benjamin Thorseth.
Rice is currently ranked 32nd in GolfStat's NCAA Head-to-Head Standings. The Owls are ranked No. 40 in the latest GolfWeek rankings.
