
Rice Beats UCF 3-0 in Volleyball

Orlando - Natalie Bogan led three Rice players in double-figure kills with a match-high 14 to lead the Owls past the UCF Knights 3-0 in a Conference USA volleyball match in The Venue at UCF. Set scores were 25-18, 25-17, and 25-16. Rice is now 14-5 overall and 6-2 in C-USA, while UCF drops to 10-11 on the year and 2-6 in C-USA.
Besides Bogan, Rice received double-digit kills from sophomore Ashleigh McCord with 13 and senior Jessie Boulavsky with 12. Boulavsky hit a team season-high .786 attack percentage with 12 kills (1 error) in 14 attacks. Bogan hit .458 (14-3-24), while McCord hit .423 (13-2-26). Senior Jenn McClean had 9 kills with a .312 hitting percentage.
The Owls also hit a team season-high hitting percentage at .440 (56 kills, 12 errors, 100 attacks). UCF hit only .175 (30 kills, 13 errors, 97 attacks).
The 56 kills by Rice is a team season-high for a three-set match. Rice hit .471 in set one, .382 in set two, and .469 in set three in a match that lasted only 78 minutes.
Owl setter Meredith Schamun, the C-USA's leading setter, posted a match-high 50 assists for an eye-poppin' 16.67 assist per set average. Rice libéro Tracey Lam dug up a match-high 16 digs for a 5.33 digs per set average.
UCF was led by Erin Campbell's 10 kills.
Rice, now in second place, plays at Conference USA-leading Southern Miss (19-3, 7-1) on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Hattiesburg, Miss.
