UCF Slays Owls 77-52

Orlando -- In the city where dreams come true it was a Knight-mare for the Rice Owls as they lost 77 to 52 to UCF in a Conference USA game at UCF Arena.
The Knights (6-12, 4-1) used three huge runs in the first-half to forge a 41-20 lead at intermission. UCF went on an 8-4 lead to take an early 12-6 lead at the first media timeout as Rice (5-13, 0-5) made 3 of its first 10 shots. The second UCF run did the most damage as the Knights outscored the Owls 20 to 5 to take a 32-11 lead. Turnovers, as is the case with most teams, proved to be Rice's Waterloo as it committed 10 miscues in the first 12 minutes and 10 seconds of the game.
Rice then scored on three possessions for a mini 7-0 run of its own to cut the deficit to 14, but UCF countered by closing out the half on a 11-2 spurt. UCF scored over half of its points (22) in the paint in the first 20 minutes.
UCF then opened the second-half by outscoring the Owls 19 to 6 put the game away.
Maudess Fulton was strong from the field by making 8 of 12 field goals for a game-high 19 points. Rice shot 32 percent (19-59) from the field and finished with 21 turnovers and 33 rebounds.
UCF was led in scoring by Chelsie Wiley's 19 points, 15 points and 17 rebounds from Emma Cannon, and 10 by Aisha Patrick. The Knights shot 40 percent (29-72) from the field and grabbed 56 rebounds, 20 of them offensive for 18 second-chance points. UCF also tallied 33 points off of Rice turnovers.
The Owls now host Southern Miss on Sunday at Tudor Fieldhouse. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
