Green Wave Surges Past Rice

New Orleans - In its second Conference USA game of the season, the Rice Owls fell on the road to Tulane, 91-63 in Fogelman Arena. Rice is now 5-11 on the year and 0-2 in league action, while the Green Wave improves to 10-7 and 2-1 in C-USA.
The Owls were led in scoring by two freshmen. D'Frantz Smart led Rice with 19 points, while Brianna Hypolite came off the bench to add 15. Melissa Wittmayer led the Owls with 9 rebounds. Chassity Brown led Tulane with 20 points in 23 minutes of action on 7-11 shooting.
The Owls started the contest with a 4-0 lead, but Tulane then went on a 15-5 run to lead 15-9 with 11:39 left in the half. A layup by Maudess Fulton brought Rice to within 5 (21-16), but it would be another 5:39 before the Owls would score again as the Green Wave countered with a huge 17-0 run of their own to make the score 38-16. Overall, Tulane ended the half by outscoring Rice 22 to 9.
For the game, the Owls shot only 33.3 percent from the field to Tulane's 52 percent field goal percentage. Rice also committed 23 turnovers, which led to 23 Green Wave points.

The Rice women's basketball team takes part in the annual Take A Kid to the Game Day. All kids 13 and under will receive free general admission tickets when accompanied by an adult. Autographs by the Rice Owls will take place following the game.
