LAWRENCE, Kan. - Rice began Tuesday's final round of the Kansas Invitational in 10th place but the Owls were just six strokes out of the top five heading into the final 18 holes.
Rice rebounded from a 303 morning round on Monday to card a 295 Monday afternoon. First-year Rice player Robert Burrow shot a one-under par 71 Monday afternoon and was tied for fifth with a 36-hole score of 144 heading into Tuesday's play.
The Owls have a two-round score of 598. South Dakota State shot a 579 Monday to enjoy a one stroke lead over the 16-team field. UC Davis and TCU are tied for second after shooting 580s while host Kansas shot a 584 and is in fourth place. Louisiana-Lafayette both carded 592s on Monday and are tied for fifth.
Burrow trails second-round individual leader Trent Peterson of South Dakota State, who had a two-round score of 141.
In addition to Burrow's afternoon round, both Kyle Kelley and Michael Buttacavoli significantly improved their scores Monday afternoon after shooting 77s during the morning round. Kelley shot a 73 for a two-round score of 150 while Buttacavoli's 74 left him with a two-round score of 151.
