Rice University senior golfer Kyle Kelley placed second while junior Christopher Brown tied for third at the College Players Tour National Championship held this week at Texas Star Golf Course in Euless.
After firing an opening-round 69, Kelley finished with back-to-back scores of 71 for a three-round score of 211, six strokes back of champion Ross Beal.
Brown, who won the last CPT regular-season tournament title last week - the Sonterra Collegiate Open in San Antonio - was in second place following the second day of the tournament after a pair of 69 scores. But a 74 on Thursday left him with a three-round score of 212. He finished in a three-way tie for third at the national championship.
In its 15th year, the Collegiate Players Tour provides summer golf competition for college-aged men and women. CPT's National Championship attracted a field of 62 golfers.
Kelley and Brown along with the balance of the Rice golf team now turn their attention to the 2008 fall intercollegiate season. The Owls' first fall tournament is the Olympic Club Collegiate Invitational slated for Sept. 8-9 in San Francisco.
