KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - The third round of the Cuthbert Cup was cancelled Tuesday afternoon dues to inclement weather. Most of the teams had about four to six holes remaining when rain, mixed with thunder and lightning set in Tuesday.
The tournament final standings revert back to the second round results. Rice sophomore Christopher Brown shot a pair of even-par 72s on Sunday and Monday and tied for 10th. As a team, the Owls placed seventh in the final standings.
Rice shot a 587 (+11) to finish eight strokes back of tournament champion UNC Wilmington. Both UNC Wilmington and Washington State had two-round scores of 579. The tie was broken based on the fifth player's score in the second round.
Also placing in the Top 20 individually for Rice was sophomore Michael Buttacavoli who tied for 16th with a two-round score of 146 (+2). The tournament marked Buttacavoli's third straight Top 20 finish of the spring season.
Rice returns to action March 14-15 when the Owls travel to Laredo for the Border Olympics.
