Rice Remains in 7th at Cuthbert Cup

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - Rice sophomore Christopher Brown shot an even-par 72 for the second straight round on Monday and shares 10th place with 18 holes to play at the Cuthbert Cup.
The race remains tight for the team title after two rounds as eight strokes separate seventh-place Rice from the lead. The Owls shot a 290 at Cougar Point Golf Club Monday and have a two-round score of 587. UNC Wilmington shot a 286 Tuesday and moved up to share the lead after 36 holes with Washington State. Both teams have 579 scores heading into Tuesday's final round.
The unique tournament moves back to Osprey Point Golf Club for the final round Tuesday and seeding will determine foursomes that will consist of two men's players as well as two women's players who are also participating in the Cuthbert Cup.
The men and women played on opposite courses Sunday and Monday.
Host College of Charleston's women's team has a three-stroke lead on the field with a 583 team score. UNC Wilmington is second.
On the men's side, rounding out the top seven are College of Charleston, third (580); Maryland, fourth (581), Richmond, fifth (582) and Western Carolina, sixth (585).
Rice's Brown is seven strokes behind second-round leader Chris Golf of Maryland who shot a 66 Monday and has a two-round score of 137. Washington State's Nick Ellis and UNC Wilmington's Josh Brock are four strokes back with scores of 141.
Also in the top 20 from Rice is sophomore Michael Buttacavoli who shot a 75 on Monday and is currently in a six-round tie for 16th with a score of 146.
The final round is set for a shotgun format beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday. The time was moved up an hour due to an approaching storm front.
