PROVO, Utah (AP) -- Jonathan Tavernari scored 18 points as BYU extended the nation's longest home win streak to 50 games with an 83-52 win over Rice Friday.
The Cougars (4-0) made 9-of-15 3-point attempts in the first half, including five in a row during a backbreaking 21-3 run.
Lamont Morgan Jr. and Jackson Emery each hit a pair of 3-pointers and Lee Cummard one during the outburst, which gave BYU a 36-12 lead with 5:28 to play in the half.
Lawrence Ghoram led Rice (1-2) with 10 points and added a game-high seven rebounds.
Cummard and Jimmer Fredette scored 13 apiece for the Cougars. Morgan added a career-high 10.
BYU opened the second half with a 17-2 run to build a 60-25 in the fourth game of the Basketball Travelers Invitational hosted by BYU.
The Cougars had 22 assists on 30 field goals and shot 56 percent from the field and 55 percent from behind the 3-point line.
