
Rice Whips McNeese State 3-0

Karyn Morgan posted a double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs to lead the Rice Owls to 3-0 non-conference volleyball victory over visiting McNeese State. Game scores were 25-15, 25-19, and 25-20. With the win, Rice improves to 11-4 overall heading into this weekend's matches at Marshall and at East Carolina. McNeese State is now 3-11 for the year.
"One of our main objectives was to come out and improve our blocking," commented Rice head coach Genny Volpe. "Tonight our blocking really stepped up and our defense was strong and out hitting percentage was really high."
The Owls for the night sported a .289 hitting percentage with 43 kills and 10 errors in 114 attempts. McNeese State meanwhile hit .110 (33-21-109).
Rice senior Jessica Holderness led all attackers with a .667 hitting percentage with 8 kills in 12 attacks, while freshman Yuan Lin had 4 kills in 7 attacks for a .571 attack percentage and freshman Ashleigh McCord had a .500 hitting percentage with 6 kills in 12 attacks.
Owl setter Meredith Schamun had 29 assists and libéro Tracey Lam had 13 digs. Junior Jenn McClean also was in double-digits with 10 digs, while sophomore middle blocker Caroline Gill was strong at the net with a match-high 6 block assists.
Rice is at Marshall this Friday at 6 p.m. (Central) and at East Carolina on Sunday at 11 a.m. (Central).
