La QUINTA, Calif. - After struggling during Monday morning's opening round of The Prestige at PGA West, Rice junior Christopher Brown came back to play the final 36 holes at three-over par and improved his finish to a tie for 30th Tuesday.
Brown birdied three straight holes at one point Tuesday and went on to fired a one-over par 73 during final round play. The Garland native began the tournament with an eight-over par 80 Monday morning and was two-over par during the second round of the tournament also played on Monday.
As a team, Rice could not overcome a 322 Monday morning score and finished 16th. The Owls shot back-to-back 302s during the second and third rounds of the tournament.
Rice senior Erik Petersen improved his position at the tournament 13 spots on Tuesday, going from 62nd to start the day to tie for 49th after carding a final-round score of 73. The round followed a two-round score of 157 on Monday.
TCU shot a three-round score of 861 to finish ten strokes ahead of second place UC Davis and 18 strokes ahead of third place Stanford.
TCU's Jonah de Beer and UC Davis' Nate Pistacchio both carded three-round scores of 210 to tie for first individually.
Rice wraps up the fall season when the squad returns to California for the Pacific Invitational Nov. 3-5 in Stockton, Calif.
