The Rice Owls golf team, at the Purdue Midwest Shootout, shot a 313 in the tournament's first and only round as thunderstorms canceled the second and final round at the Kampen Course (par 72; 7,465 yards).
The Owls were led by sophomore Christopher Brown's 76 (35-41), while another sophomore, Michael Buttacavoli shot a 78 (38-40).
Bowling Green State and Michigan recorded team scores of 293 (+5), with Michigan taking home the team title based on the fifth players' scores as the tie-breaker. The Wolverines' fifth player, Brian Ottenweller outscored Bowling Green State's Russell Goodwin, 79 to 81.
The individual medal was shared by five golfers, Michigan's Tim Schaetzel (35-36) and Bill Rankin (35-36), Bowling Green State's Jace Walker (35-36) and Andrew Ladwig (37-34) and Purdue's Erich Johnston (34-37) each shot 71.
The Owls are next in action at the Memphis Intercollegiate, Oct. 8-9.
