Buttacavoli Qualifies for U.S. Amateur

Rice University golfer Michael Buttacavoli will play at the 107th U.S. Amateur Championship after winning a 36-hole qualifying round. Buttacavoli, a sophomore, shot a 66 on Monday (Aug. 6) and a 67 on Tuesday (Aug. 7) for a 133 total to finish first out of 84 competitors at La Gorce County Club in Miami Beach, Fla.
This year's U.S. Amateur takes place Aug. 20-26 at the Olympic Club in San Francisco. This will be the third U.S. Amateur Championship hosted by the Olympic Club with previous events being held in 1958 and 1981. The United States Amateur Championship is the oldest of the 13 championships conducted by the USGA.
