
Owls in Sixth Place at Conference USA Championship

Texarkana, Ark. -- Addison Awe and Heon Young are in the top five of the Conference USA golf championship as the Rice Owls golf team is tied for sixth after the first round of competition at the Texarkana Country Club (par-72, 6,935-yards). Awe, a junior, is tied for fourth with a two-under 70, while Lee, a senior, is tied for fifth with a one-under 71. As a team, Rice finished 11-strokes back of first-place Tulsa with a 296. Tulsa leads with a three-under 285, while Memphis follows with a 288.
"Addison Awe and Heon Young Lee scored really well today," said Rice head coach Drew Scott. "Hopefully, they can keep it up and we'll be able to move up the team ranks."
Ahead of Awe are Tulsa's Ryan Henry, in first place with a four-under 68, and tied for second at 69 (-3) are Brad Benjamin (Memphis) and Garrett Osborn (UAB).
The second of three rounds of action starts on Monday with tee times at 8 am. The winner of the C-USA Championship receives an automatic berth to the NCAA Regional. Live scoring is available on www.conferenceusa.com.
