Owls 13th at 40th Annual Fossum/Spartan Invitational

East Lansing, Mich. - The Rice Owls golf team currently resides in 13th place at the 40th Annual Fossum/Spartan Invitational held at Forest Akers West Golf Course (par-72, 7,013-yards). The Owls shot 297 in round one and followed with a 296 in round twp for a day one total of 593. Michigan State leads the field at 563 (279-284), while Xavier follows at 568 (282-286).
Rice junior Addison Awe is the Owls' top performer with a two-over 146 (74-72). He is tied at 32nd. Sophomore Erik Petersen is two strokes back of Awe at 148 after posting a 74 in each round. Sophomore Bobby Thomure (73-77) and freshman Michael Buttacavoli (76-74) each shot 150 are tied at 50th. Senior Heon Young Lee is tied at 64 with a 154 (78-76).
Cam Burke of Eastern Michigan leads all individuals with a nine-under 135. Burke torched the course with a 64 in the first round and followed with 71 in round two. Iowa's Cole Peevler follows at eight-under with a 136 (70-66).
Third and final round action begins at 8 am on Sunday.
