After the first day of play at the seventh annual Rice Intercollegiate (Westwood GC; par 72; 7,184 yds), Sam Houston State University leads at 606 (296-310). College of Charleston's Harrison Moore leads the field with 143 (71-72).
The Rice Owls are in seventh place at 617 (309-308) after strong second round play. Coach Drew Scott said, "We're 11 back and within striking distance with four solid rounds left in us. The players are excited about the possibility of winning the tournament tomorrow. They feel very comfortable with this golf course, and they know what they have to do to acheive their goal which is to win the Rice Intercollegiate."
Sophomore Kaz Hoffman played extremely well and closes out the day tied for third with 148 (75-73). "I think he's right there in the hunt for the individual championship tomorrow," Scott said.
One of the highlights of today's second round came as Rice's only senior, Heon Young Lee, made a hole-in-one on the 15th hole (par 3; 191yds).
The third round of the Rice Intercollegiate will commence tomorrow morning at 8:30 am.
