The Rice Owls golf team shot a 299 in the final round of the Memphis Intercollegiate to place 10th. Held at the Colonial Country Club (Par 72 - 7334 yards), the tournament was limited to two rounds due to Monday's inclement weather.
The Owls were led by sophomore Christopher Brown's three-over 147 (73-74). Brown tied for 18th, while another sophomore, Michael Buttacavoli, tied at 34 with a six-over 150 (76-74).
"Chris Brown had a solid performance after starting out at four-over after the first five holes, but he picked up his game finished at just two-over," said Rice head coach Drew Scott. "I was also really pleased with Michael Buttacavoli's play and Zach Wilson had a solid second round with a 73 after shooting an 82 in round one."
Penn State's Kevin Foley won the individual title with a six-under 138 (65-73). Mississippi captured the team title with a 572 (-4; 280-292).
The Owls will next be in action Oct. 15-16 when they compete at the Squire Creek Invitational in Choudrant, La.
