The Rice Owls golf team finished 16th at the Squire Creek Invitational with a 904 score (310-300-294) at the Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant, La. (par 72; 7105 yards). Mississippi repeated as team champions at the 18-team event by registering a three-round total of 860 (282-292-286), narrowly defeating LSU (862) and La Tech (863).
The Owls were led by sophomore Michael Buttacavoli's 221 (77-73-71) which resulted in a tied for 35th finish. Sophomore Christopher Brown followed at tied for 45th with a 223 (76-76-71) and freshman Michael Whitehead followed at 224 (76-76-72).
Rice returns to action on Oct. 29-30 when it competes at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate in Las Cruces, N.M.
