Owls Open Fall Golf Season

The Rice Owls golf team opens up fall 2006 action when it competes at the Scenic City Invitational with 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday at the Pete Dye designed Honors Course (par 72; 7,200 yards) in Ooltewah, Tenn., and hosted by UT-Chattanooga. Also competing in the 18-team field are UNC-Charlotte, UT-Arlington, Mississippi, Louisiana State, UAB, Virginia, Southern Miss, Southeastern Louisiana, Mississippi State, Memphis, Mercer, South Alabama, Furman, La Tech, Francis Marion, and Middle Tennessee.
Competing for the Owls in this first tournament are Kyle Kelley, Kaz Hoffman, Erik Petersen, Bobby Thomure, and Michael Buttacavoli.
The Honors Course opened in 1983, and has hosted such prestigious events as the 1986 and 2005 Southern Amateur, 1991 U.S. Amateur Championship, 1996 men's NCAA Div. 1 Championship, and the 2005 U.S. Mid Amateur.
