The Rice Owls golf team competes at the Border Olympics this Friday and Saturday in Laredo at the Laredo Country Club (par 72; 7,241 yards). The 54-hole event begins with 36 holes on Friday and the final 18 holes on Saturday.
Teams competing include Houston, UTEP, Baylor, Lamar, New Mexico State, North Texas, Arkansas-Little Rock, Southeastern Louisiana, Washington State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Memphis, South Alabama, Texas-Arlington, Texas State, and Notre Dame.
Head coach Drew Scott is sticking with the same lineup that he used at the Louisiana Classics. The Owls' starting five includes senior Parker LaBarge, junior Daniel Lee, sophomores Addison Awe and Jeff Krakowiak and freshman Kyle Kelley.
Lee leads Rice in scoring average, but not by much at 74.0, while LaBarge follows at 74.5 and Awe is at 74.6. Meanwhile, Kelley is averaging 75.3 strokes and Krakowiak follows him at 75.5.
Last year at the Border Olympics, Rice placed seventh out of 11 teams at 887 (293-298-296).
