
Owls Look to Rebound Friday at Sun & Fun Classic

Rice will be looking to get back in the win column Friday at 6:30 pm as the Owls take on Kansas State at the 17th Florida International Sun & Fun Classic at Pharmed Arena. This is the first meeting of the two schools, and Rice sports a 7-4 record, while the Wildcats are 10-1 this season. Kansas State won the Women's National Invitation Tournament last year.
Senior forward Lauren Neaves will lead the Owls, as she returns home to South Florida with a 17.1 scoring average. The Cooper City, Fla., product averages 10.5 rebounds a game, second highest in Conference USA. Kadie Riverin and Valeriya Berezhynska also average in double figures scoring, and Riverin dishes out four assists a game. Berezhynska prepped at Miami's Northwest Christian Academy.
Kansas State is led by junior guard Kimberly Dietz, who averages 13.3 points, and two other Wildcats also average in double figures -- Marlies Gipson and Claire Coggins. Gipson is the team's leading rebounder with 8.5 a game, and Shalee Lehning hands out 5.6 assists an outing.
Rice will play either FIU or George Mason in Saturday's consolation or championship game.
