Rice Eighth at Pacific Invitational

The Rice Owls golf team sits in eighth place with a 287 score after the first of three rounds at the Pacific Invitational played at Brookside Country Club (Par 72; 6,777 yards). The 287 score is Rice's lowest round of the fall season and is only seven strokes back of third-place Charlotte (280). BYU leads at 275 and UC Santa Barabara follows at 276.
The Owls have two golfers in the top 10 ten as sophomores Erik Petersen and Kaz Hoffman each fired a 69. They are tied for ninth overall. Another sophomore, Kyle Kelley is tied for 37th at 74. Finishing round one with a 75 and tied at 43 are freshman Chris Brown and senior Heon Young Lee.
Daniel Summerhays, from BYU, leads the field with a six-under 66.
