Owls Finish Ninth at the Aloha Purdue Invitational

Poipu, Kauai Hawaii -- The Rice Owls golf team placed ninth at the Aloha Purdue Inviational held at the Kiahuna Golf Club (par: 70, 6,885 yards). Rice shot 898 (298-304-296) for the tournament. Texas won the team title with an 847 score (279-291-277), just six strokes ahead of second place Michigan (281-294-278=853).
The Owls were led by sophomore Kyle Kelley's 222 (75-75-72; +12). Kelley placed tied for 31st, while Erik Peterson was one stroke back at 223 (76-75-72).
Clemson's Kyle Stanley (71-67-69) and Virginia Tech's Drew Weaver (71-68-68) were tied after three rounds of action at 207. But Stanley birdied the first play-off hole for the individual championship.
This was Rice's final tournament during the Fall portion of the schedule. The Owls are next in action when they host the annual Rice Intercollegiate on Feb. 17-18, 2007.
