Franklin, Tenn. -- The Rice Owls golf team placed sixth at the Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate at the Vanderbilt Legends Club. The Owls shot 296 during the third and final round to finish with an 890 score (294-300-296). Rice sophomore Kaz Hoffman was the Owls' top finisher. Hoffman placed fifth at 216 (71-71-74).
Mississippi shot a two-over 290 during Tuesday's final round of play to take the team championship. Ole Miss' team total of 876 (290-296-290) won the tournament by eight strokes over co-runners-up Vanderbilt and North Florida. UT-Chattanooga captured fourth place after shooting the tournament's only under-par round on Tuesday.
There were co-medalists in the individual competition, as Silas Sutton of Mercer and Kyle Peterman of Memphis tied at three-under. Sutton shot identical rounds of one-under 71 on all three days, while Peterman rebounded from a slow start to shoot the low rounds on Monday and Tuesday (70 and 66, respectively).
